Dr. Sahar Khamis
President
an Associate Professor of Communication and an Affiliate Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is an expert on Arab and Muslim media and the former Head of the Mass Communication Department at Qatar University. Dr. Khamis holds a PhD in Mass Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Manchester in England. She is the co-author of the books Islam Dot Com: Contemporary Islamic Discourses in Cyberspace (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009) and Egyptian Revolution 2.0: Political Blogging, Civic Engagement and Citizen Journalism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), and the co-editor of the book Arab Women’s Activism and Socio-Political Transformation: Unfinished Gendered Revolutions (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). She authored and co-authored numerous book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers, and is the recipient of a number of prestigious academic and professional awards. Dr. Khamis is a frequent Arab and international media commentator and analyst, a public speaker, a media host, and a former human rights commissioner in Montgomery County, Maryland. Dr. Khamis is an AUSACE member since 2002 and an AUSACE board member since 2011.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Shami
Vice President
Professor of broadcast & digital journalism in Mass Communication Department, Qatar University. Al-Shami was a Fulbright visiting Scholar at the College of Mass Communication, Boston University on 2005. He also participated in Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) on Journalism and Media for Distinguished Scholars, SCRIPPS School of Journalism, Ohio University, U.S on 2011. He held several academic and administrative assignments at Sana'a University and Hodeidh University in Yemen, including dean, vice-dean, and chair of departments. His research interests are about new media and social change as well as digital media. He is the editor of Journal of Middle East Media, Arabic edition, board member of The Arab-U.S. Association of Communication Educators (AUSACE) since 2010, founding member of the Arab European Association for Communication Professors and Researchers (AREACORE), editorial board member of Ansaq Journal, Qatar University, and member of editorial board of the Journal of Middle East Media (JMEM).

Dr. Karin Gwinn Wilkins
Wilkins (PhD, University of Pennsylvania) is Dean of the School of Communication at the University of Miami. Previously, she was Associate Dean for Faculty Advancement and Strategic Initiatives with the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. She was awarded the Cale McDowell Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Studies, for creating a certificate in global studies, programs in Middle East studies, and a degree in Communication and Leadership. Wilkins is also a recognized fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA) and has concluded her term as Editor-in-Chief of Communication Theory. She has won numerous awards for her research, service and teaching. Her work addresses scholarship in the fields of development communication, gender and global communication.

Boyd is an international media researcher whose research appears in the Journal of Communication, Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, Journalism Quarterly, Journal of Advertising Research, Critical Studies in Mass Communication, and Journal of Radio Studies, as well as in other American (American Behavioral Scientist, Communication Yearbook, Central States Speech Journal, Howard Journal of Communications, Journal of Popular Culture, Journal of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Feedback) and European (Revue de l'Occident Musulman et de la Méditerranée, Space Communication and Broadcasting, Gazette, Communications/Die Europäische Zeitschrift für Kommunikation, and Rundfunk und Fernsehen) academic publications. He serves on the editorial board of Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media and the Journal of Communication.
In addition to research awards from his various institutions, he has received research grants from the Ford Foundation, Japan's Hoso-Bunka Foundation, UNESCO, the government of Quebec, the Kaltenborn Foundation, the United States/Japan International Management Institute, and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies & Research.

Dr. Mohammed el-Nawawy
Director of the Board of Doctoral Studies and Professor in the Media Studies Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
Before holding his current post, he was holding the Charles A. Dana Professor of International Communication and Middle Eastern Studies at Queens University of Charlotte. His areas of expertise and research interests are focused on the new media, particularly satellite channels and the Internet, and their impact on the global public sphere in general and the Arab public sphere in particular. He is also interested in issues of media framing of terrorism and race. He is the author and co-author of seven books: Revolutionary Egypt in the Eyes of the Muslim Brotherhood: A Framing Analysis of Ikhwanweb by Rowman & Littlefield (2018); Egyptian Revolution 2.0: Political Blogging, Civic Engagement and Citizen Journalism by Palgrave Macmillan (2013); Islam dot Com: Contemporary Islamic Discourses in Cyberspace by Palgrave Macmillan (2009); Mediating conflict: Al Jazeera English and the possibility of a conciliatory media by Figueroa Press (2008); Al-Jazeera: The story of the network that is rattling governments and redefining modern journalism by Westview Press (2003); Al-Jazeera: How the free Arab news network scooped the world and changed the Middle East by Westview Press (2002); and The Israeli-Egyptian peace process in the reporting of Western journalists by Greenwood Publishers (2002). He has also published in several scholarly, peer-reviewed international journals. He is the founding editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Middle East Media and serves on the editorial boards of Media, War and Conflict journal, Journalism Education journal and Global Media Journal. He was AUSACE President between 2014 and 2017 and Vice President between 2012 and 2014. He has been on the AUSACE Board since 2006. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in journalism and mass communication at the American University in Cairo. He has a doctorate degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Kim Fox
Kim Fox is currently an associate professor of practice in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC) at The American University in Cairo (AUC) in Cairo, Egypt. She primarily teaches Audio Production and Multimedia Writing. She received both her B.S. and her M.A. degrees from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Kim spent decades working in the U.S. radio industry in various positions at radio stations including WOUB AM/FM/TV in Athens, Ohio; WIZF in Cincinnati, Ohio; WBLK in Buffalo, New York, WAKR in Akron, Ohio and many more. As the executive producer of the award winning Ehky Ya Masr (Tell Your Story Egypt) Podcast, a narrative nonfiction podcast about life in Cairo, Egypt, she works with young freelance producers writing and editing audio content. You won’t find her ranting on Twitter, but check her out there … just in case.

Dr. Hesham Mesbah
Associate Professor and former Chair of the Department of Communication at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. I teach in the concentration of public relations, in addition to teaching communication and media courses across the curriculum. I received my master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the American University in Cairo and a doctoral degree in Mass Communication from Cairo University in 1996. I was also visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for two years (1994-1996). My research agenda includes comparative cognitive effects of news media, social media, and public opinion. I have numerous peer-refereed publications and conference presentations in both English and Arabic. Before coming to Rollins College, I taught communication and mass media at Cairo University, Kuwait University, Sultan Qaboos University, and Northwestern State University in Louisiana. I have been actively engaged in training journalists and providing research and public relations consultations in Egypt and Kuwait. I was also the president of the Arab-US Association of Communication Educators (AUSACE) ausace.org (2017-2019). Moreover, I have been the Senior Editor of the Journal of Middle East Media (JMEM) since 2018.

He collaborated with American University in Cairo, Egypt, on “The Handbook of Research on Communication as an Agent of Change in the Modern Arab World.” Auter is planning a partnership for cross-cultural programming between the universities. He is past executive director of the American Communication Association.
Dr. Azza A. Ahmed
Professor of Mass Communication at Zayed University, Emirates, and Cairo University, Egypt. Formerly, she was a professor and assistant dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Abu-Dhabi University. She also was an associate professor at the United Arab Emirates University. She worked as a freelance news editor and director in the Nile TV international and BBC in Cairo.
Azza received Khalifa Award for the Distinguished University Faculty in Teaching. She also got the distinguished Professor Award from Abu-Dhabi University and the distinguished service award from UAEU. She received four research awards from universities in the USA, Morocco, and Paris.
Azza is a member of the Arab-US Association for Communication Educators AUSACE since 2005. She was the AUSACE vice president from 2015-2017. She was the Arabic editor of the Journal of Middle East Media from 2005-2016. Her research interest includes media effects, TV news, new media, TV drama, binge-TV watching, media credibility, and media research ethics.

Dr. Hussein Amin
is a Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Director of the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism at the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, The American University in Cairo. He earned a PhD degree from Ohio State University, USA. He has been an invited lecturer to many universities around the world and is viewed as one of the forefathers of Arab scholars on satellite media, as well as a leading proponent of greater cooperation between civilizations. Recently, he has been invited Keynote speaker in the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM 2022). He is a passionate supporter of freedom of the press, and is a respected voice in bridging the gap between East and West. Dr. Amin has served in several key positions in national, regional and global media structures. Academically, he is known for his reviews and research writings, as well as for his specialized reports. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES). He is Editor-in-Chief of Arab Media and Society Journal, and a senior consultant to the Media and Communication Division of the League of Arab States, where he has led teams to write media charters and strategies. In addition, he serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, as well as the Editorial Board of the Journal of Media, War and Conflict.

Naila Hamdy is an Egyptian academic and scholar who has previously worked in the field of journalism. She is the associate dean for graduate studies and research of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy and a tenured associate professor of journalism at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
A media commentator, a public speaker and guest lecturer, she has also been frequently invited to lecture at numerous universities worldwide including: the Arhus School of Journalism in Denmark, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Thomas Moore University, Belgium, The Free University of Berlin, The University of Qatar, The University of Salzburg and the American University of the Emirates amongst others.
With research interests in the area of the journalism and media professions, international communication and traditional and social media production and consumption, Hamdy has both taught, published and consulted on related contexts.
Her book chapters and articles focus on the journalism culture, the role of media, news production, and social and digital media impacts in the Arab region. Hamdy has authored numerous articles in international journals including; Middle East Media, The Global Media Journal-Arabian Edition, Journal of Arab & Muslim Media Research, the Westminster Papers in Communication and Culture and the Journal of Communication. She is an active member of the editorial boards of several journals in the communication field. Selected journals, include internationally renowned top ranking academic journals such as Journalism Practice and Digital Journalism.
Hamdy’s latest project is an edited volume on the contemporary Arab communication landscape offering a clear basic knowledge of the Arab countries under investigation, focusing on their media systems.
She is an active board member on several academic and professional boards such as the Arab-US Association for Communication Educators (AUSACE), the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and advisor to the Ethical Journalism Network (EJN). She has also been involved in projects for international organizations and associations such as USAID, IREX, UNDP, and WAN-IFRA Women-In-News and the UNAOC.
